When To Start Using Eye Cream

I have recently come to find out that my own mother, in her 50's, does not use eye cream! She just puts her facial moisturizer all over her face, never specifically focusing on her eye area. She will spend hundreds of dollars on expensive serums and moisturizers for her face, but ignores the highly specific needs of the delicate skin around the eye. When she revealed this to me she was completely oblivious to her ignorance. She wasn't being lazy as I would have imagined, she just didn't know any better. My own mother! Where did I go wrong?

Surfing the web I've found a lot of bad advice on these issues so I thought I should set the record straight once and for all. Eye cream is a necessary part of a skin care regimen for anyone over 20 years old. Use it in the morning and again at night. As for using your facial moisturizer all over your face, you want to make sure that there are no ingredients in your moisturizer that could harm your eyes. Unless your moisturizer specifically says it can also be used around the eye, you should not use it for that purpose. If a product is multipurpose, it will say so somewhere. You need to have a cream or moisturizing gel that is safe for the eye area and specifically addresses your skincare needs. If you have dark circles you will want an eye cream that targets that particular problem. I suggest the White Caviar Illuminating Eye Serum from La Prairie for this particular issue. For Firmness, Lines and Wrinkles I recommend Ivo Pitanguy's Eye Contour Lifting Gel. If you don't have the money to spend on a good eye cream (all good eye creams are upwards of $80) you can get a bottle of organic macadamia nut oil from your health food store and use a drop of that around each eye twice daily. A small bottle of macadamia nut oil will last you ages as an eye cream, and you can cook with it too! There really is no excuse for not properly caring for your skin, and using eye cream is a definitive part of that. Proper and consistent use of eye cream that starts immediately when leaving our teens will help prevent premature signs of aging around our eyes. It's that simple.

My mother has now started using eye cream and I have already noticed a difference in less than a months time. She has no idea how she ever survived without it. If you are 20 or over and don't use eye cream yet, start today. You won't regret it!
